About

At the 12th – 14th of April 2010, the University of Amsterdam will host the eleventh Econometric Game. This is the most prestigious project organized by the study association for Actuarial Science, Econometrics & Operational Research (VSAE) of the University of Amsterdam.

The first Econometric Game was organized by the VSAE in 1999. Over the last ten years, the Econometric Game has evolved from a one-day national event to a highly respected international event lasting several days. During the last three Games more than twenty universities have tried to solve a challenging econometric case in the fields of global warming, direct marketing and child mortality. Although many excellent solutions were submitted, the respective juries named Oxford University the winner in 2007, Cambridge University in 2008 and University of Madrid Carlos III in 2009.

The Econometric Game Committee 2010 strives to further develop the Econometric Game and we hope to establish it as the most prestigious international competition for students of econometrics. These ambitions translate into the desire for an Econometric Game with a broader international scope and even more competitive and illustrious participants.
The universities participating this year are expected to send delegations of five students majoring in econometrics or relevant studies with a maximum of two PhD students. The teams will be given a case study, which they will have to resolve. As in each edition, the subject of the case will be held secret until the first day of the Game. The solutions will be reviewed by a jury of qualified and independent professors, and they will announce the winner of the Game at the last day.
